Is Cinema Dead? - Chapter 44 - Who is NoOne?

A man dreams to make a film, but he doesn't have money to do it and at the same time he realizes that he is going to become a father then he takes the risk and makes them all together. This documentary is directed by the iconic duo Vasil Goranov and Peppe George.

I met Vasil Goranov aka PEPPE GEORGE in 2013 during the production of “The Bridges of Sarajevo” directed by Kamen Kalev.

We were production assistants in this project. Then we separated our paths for around six months. One day, I randomly bumped in Youtube in one documentary THE BOXING DICTIONARY.

I was impressed from this documentary, I was really amazed of its emotional depth. And even after seeing it I started practicing boxing. At that moment I didn't know who was the filmmaker behind it.

In the beginning of 2014 Vasil contacted me in Facebook that somebody has told him that I was going to make a feature film. He asked me if there is a free place or any available work for him in the project. I asked him what he's been doing since our last meeting and he told me that he has made a short documentary the BOXING DICTIONARY about boxers. I was blown away that Vasil was the maker of this film and I told him that I was impressed from the film and I immediately offered him to shoot a documentary about the making of No One. I was eager to help him produce this documentary. He agreed and everything started from there. Three years has passed since the beginning of the shooting of the documentary.

The first stage of the making of the documentary was the production process. Vasil told me that he has to leave the setting after the 10th of August, because he was going to Italy to shoot scenes for his first feature film The SUNFLOWER SPACESHIP 1. And he asked me if I was Ok if he invited a friend of him Todor Bodurov to cover him for the last 10 days of shooting. So they both were filming for twenty days the making of No One.

Todor aka Toshiro came at the beginning so we had two camera operators filming the making of NoOne.

The second stage of making the documentary was the post production stage. Vasil was randomly appearing and disappearing but He was always shooting what he was finding interesting for the docu. I was shooting as well various moments and especially the stage during the crowd funding campaign there were a lot of recorded content.

The third stage of the documentary was the film festival life of the film, and its theatrical distribution and screenings.

During those four years there was lots of skepticism from our side, from the rest of the crew and cast, that this documentary will be finished. However, at the end of October 2017 during the So Independent film festival WHO IS NO ONE? had its premiere.

Vasil managed not only to finish his first feature film along Who Is No One?, Sunflower Spaceship 1, for which movie he was awarded with Golden Rose for the best short film. On top of this He finished Sunflower Spaceship 3 and now he is in post production of his third feature film - You'll Never Watch Alone.

It is important to say that he is making his films all by himself. He is the producer, director, editor, camera operator, actor, distributor, marketer etc.

The famous Bulgarian film critic Vera Naydenova said that Vasil Goranov is the genius of Bulgarian Cinema, because he creates new cinematic code.
